Tony Thompson Racing have built their business and earned their exceptional
reputation by building and supplying high-quality Lotus parts that fit well and
perform as they should, not only for the track but for customers who want their
road Elan to work reliably in the modern day world. But as the restorer and owner
of a very stock (appearing)1965 Elan S2 road car – I can say that I too appreciate
TTR parts, for the same reasons. I had no experience at all with Lotus cars when I
bought a very, very neglected 1965 Elan S2, three years ago. I didn’t really even
know where to source new parts, or even if such existed.
I don’t recall how I learned of TTR, but I am so happy to have developed a very
cordial working relationship with Stuart, Ed and the rest of the staff at Tony
Thompson Racing! The parts I have received are of high quality and excellent
fit. An example of this fact was found when I took a leap of faith and ordered a new
26R chassis. Ed assured me it would be a perfect fit and he was correct! I went on
to order a new differential housing – the original was damaged by the ubiquitous
Roto Flex failure – sometime long ago! The suspension is now all 26R, courtesy of
TTR. I have lost track of the number of new items coming to my workshop from
TTR, but all of them have met, or exceeded my expectations.
It is difficult to convey to the casual reader, just how dilapidated this poor Lotus was,
when we started. Some say (most, actually) – that it was a Fool’s Errand to restore
this old car and perhaps a Chartered Accountant would agree! But this is my hobby
and passion and I have derived satisfaction from the process.
Perhaps just as importantly, although we haven’t met in person – I feel a genuine
affection for all the folks at TTR who have all been patient, helpful and timely with
advice and parts for this project. As a fellow who had never sat in a Lotus Elan,
prior to restoring this one – I can assure the reader that without the help, advice and
quality parts obtained through the people of this company, my task would have been
much more tedious and the results less satisfactory.
I can and do highly recommend Tony Thompson Racing to all of my new Lotus
friends in the U.S.A. Of course, most of them are Lotus old timers and well know
of TTR and agree with my opinion on the subject.
Thanks again to all of you at Tony Thompson Racing who patiently helped and guided the restoration of 26/4128. Happy Motoring
Sincerely,
